Client files that stay confidential, and prove it.
Confidentiality is not a feature a legal practice can take on trust. It has to be something you can configure, and afterwards something you can evidence.
Client material cannot be readable by the whole firm just because it is on the shared drive.
Documents go to counsel, experts and clients who are outside the firm entirely.
Scanned filings and exhibits arrive as flat images that nothing can search.
If access is ever questioned, the firm needs a record, not a recollection.
In practice
How NevTan Drive handles it
Access matched to the matter
Viewer, Commenter and Editor roles are set per file, so being in the firm is not the same as having access to a file.
Links you can lock down
Put a password on a link, or set it to expire, so access to a matter does not quietly outlive it.
Scans become searchable
Text recognition on scanned, image-only PDFs turns an exhibit that was a picture into text you can search and edit.
An audit log per file
Shares, permission changes and access events are recorded against the file itself — on every account, not an enterprise tier.
Bundles built in the browser
Merge, split, reorder and number PDF pages to assemble a bundle, without a desktop PDF application.
Deletion you control
Deleted files sit in Trash until you remove them for good, so nothing disappears by accident, or lingers by accident.
Signing, and where it ends
Fill and sign a PDF in the browser and the signature is baked into the saved file. When an engagement letter has to go to several parties in turn, each signing and countersigning with a certificate, that is NevTan Sign’s job rather than this editor’s — same account, same storage.
Retention you decide
Nothing is deleted on a schedule you did not set. A closed matter stays until you move it to Trash, and stays in Trash, still counting against your storage, until you empty it — so a retention policy is a decision your firm makes, not a default you inherit.
Running a matter
Create a folder for the matter and invite only the people working on it, with the role each one needs.
Upload scanned filings; run text recognition so the contents are searchable rather than a flat image.
Assemble exhibits by merging and numbering the PDFs in the browser.
Send counsel a password-protected link that expires after the hearing date.
Use the file's audit log if you ever need to evidence who had access.
Questions
Legal teams ask
Straight answers, including where NevTan Drive is not the right tool.
What makes this legal document storage rather than ordinary cloud storage?
Three things a firm is actually asked to evidence: access is granted by role on the matter folder rather than file by file, every share and permission change is written to that file’s own audit log, and a link to a client can be given a password and a closing date. It is not a practice management system, and it does not pretend to be one.
Can NevTan Drive redact a document?
No. Drive has no redaction tool, and covering text with a black annotation is not redaction — the text underneath survives. Redact in a tool built for it before uploading.
Can I prove who accessed a file?
Each file keeps its own audit log of shares, permission changes and access events, visible to the file's owner, on every account.
Can I make a scanned exhibit searchable?
Yes. NevTan Drive runs text recognition on scanned or image-only PDFs, so the text becomes selectable, searchable and editable rather than a flat picture.
