Dropbox is a sync product at heart: a folder on your machine that mirrors the cloud, with a desktop client that has had well over a decade of work put into it. If your work depends on that folder being local and always current, that is a real advantage and it is Dropbox's.

NevTan Drive is the better fit if most of your file work could happen in a browser tab — opening a PDF and marking it up, fixing a spreadsheet, sending someone a link that expires on Friday — and you would rather not pay per tier for those to be available.

Why teams switch from Dropbox

  • Sync stopped being the point. Once the work happened in a browser, a desktop agent watching a folder was overhead rather than the product.
  • The editing had to live where the files did, instead of opening a second tool for every document.
  • Link controls they assumed were standard — a password, an expiry — turned out to start above the entry plan.

Moving from Dropbox

  1. Download the folders you want to keep from your Dropbox account, or copy them out of your local Dropbox folder.
  2. Create a NevTan account and open My Drive.

  4. Rebuild your shares: invite people by email with a role, or publish a link and give it an expiry date or a password.

Does NevTan Drive have a desktop sync client?

No. NevTan Drive is a browser-based workspace: you upload, preview, edit and share files in a browser tab rather than through a synced folder on your machine. If a permanently synced local folder is central to how you work, Dropbox is the better fit and we would rather say so.

Can I edit PDFs in NevTan Drive without a paid plan?

Yes. Editing, annotating and signing PDFs is on every NevTan Drive account, including free ones. There is no Drive subscription that gates it.

What happens to my shared links when I move?

Dropbox links stop working when you remove the files from Dropbox, so re-issue them from NevTan Drive. You can set each new link to expire on a date, or require a password to open it.
