NevTan Drive vs Dropbox

A Dropbox alternative with the editors already inside it.

Dropbox built its reputation on sync that simply works. NevTan Drive is built around the browser instead — what you can do to a file once it is there, without downloading it first.

When Dropbox is the better choice
  • Your workflow depends on a local synced folder that is always up to date on every machine.
  • You move very large files constantly and rely on selective sync to control what lands on each device.
  • You are tied into integrations built specifically around the Dropbox desktop client.
When NevTan Drive is the better choice
  • You want to edit, annotate and sign PDFs in the browser rather than opening a separate application.
  • You want document, spreadsheet and presentation editors included, producing real .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files.
  • You want a per-file audit log without moving up to a higher business tier.
  • You want your file storage and your mailbox drawing on the same pool, bought once.

Questions

NevTan Drive vs Dropbox, answered

The things people ask when they are weighing Dropbox against NevTan Drive.

Does NevTan Drive have a desktop sync client?

No. NevTan Drive is a browser-based workspace: you upload, preview, edit and share files in a browser tab rather than through a synced folder on your machine. If a permanently synced local folder is central to how you work, Dropbox is the better fit and we would rather say so.

Can I edit PDFs in NevTan Drive without a paid plan?

Yes. Editing, annotating and signing PDFs is on every NevTan Drive account, including free ones. There is no Drive subscription that gates it.

What happens to my shared links when I move?

Dropbox links stop working when you remove the files from Dropbox, so re-issue them from NevTan Drive. You can set each new link to expire on a date, or require a password to open it.

Ready to try it on your own files?

Create a NevTan account and upload a folder. Nothing in Drive is behind a paywall.
